Your First Session

Your First Session

If you have never seen a counsellor before it is completely understandable that you may be unsure of what to expect, or even feel a little apprehensive.

Our first meeting would be a chance for us to explore the issues you want to bring to counselling and to consider whether we feel we will be able to work together successfully.

When you arrive at the counselling centre you will press the buzzer to be let in. There is a waiting area you can sit in if you arrive early, I will collect you from there when it is time for our session. We have three counselling rooms which are private, medium-sized rooms that contain a pair of comfortable chairs and a low table.

During the session we will talk about your reasons for seeking counselling and you will have the opportunity to tell me about whatever feels relevant to your current situation. Towards the end of the session we will discuss whether we feel that this type of counselling will be suitable for you.

Our initial meeting may be up to an hour and a quarter in length and if we decide to work together subsequent sessions will each be 50 minutes long and will be at the same time and in the same room every week.
