How Counselling Helps

 

There are times when it can feel hard to talk to friends or family members and when it can be very helpful to speak to a professional who is not involved in your day-to-day life. I can offer a safe, confidential and non-judgmental relationship where we can think together about whatever is troubling you.

I am an experienced counsellor and have worked for charities, voluntary organisations and in private practice, where I have successfully helped people struggling with issues including bereavement, difficulties with family relationships, anxiety, depression and work stress.

My way of working is to be led by you and what you wish to discuss in your sessions. My training means that in addition to thinking with you about present difficulties I can help you consider possible causes of problems. Sometimes we are unknowingly repeating patterns which may be making things more difficult in our relationships with family, friends or colleagues. Situations may cause us stress and we might not fully understand why. I believe that having greater insight into ourselves offers us the chance to bring positive changes to areas of life that may be making us unhappy.

I am fully qualified and see clients at a private practice in central Newbury, West Berkshire. We are within a few minutes walk of the train and bus stations and there is plenty of parking close by. The clinic has three consulting rooms which are all comfortable, quiet and private. There is also a waiting area if you arrive early.

I work with adults aged 18 and over on an individual basis. I work in an open ended way or for an agreed period of time - this is something we can discuss when we meet.
